Scholars believe Marie Antoinette did not say this and as a matter of fact, she was kind, and concerned about the people of the kingdom. She, apparently, was one of the few from the kingdom that volunteered and worked with those less fortunate.
There were pamphlets written up about Marie Antoinette that were not true and were put out for two reasons. One, to extort money from King Louis, he had to pay to have some pamphets destroyed. And, the others were put out in order to assist in the revolution. The pamphlets were filled with lies to damage the king and queens reputation.
